Your Vahan application status tells you where a vehicle service request stands after you submit it on Vahan 4.0, the vehicle registration system of MoRTH, India's road transport ministry. Please note that this website is privately run and has no government status: status checks, payment verification and receipt reprints all take place on the official Vahan pages, which we link below.
We cover the Know Your Application Status option, what to do when the bank debits you but Vahan shows nothing, how to get a receipt again, and how to tell a pending payment from a failed one. Steps are as of October 2026; the status box that opens this page lists newer portal changes we have verified.
What the vahan application status check is for
Every request you submit on Vahan, such as an ownership transfer, an address change, hypothecation or a duplicate RC, gets an application number. The status check uses that number to show a report on your request, so you can see how far it has progressed. RTO means the Regional Transport Office that registered your vehicle.
People search for this in many ways: vahan status, parivahan status, vahan 4.0 status, vahan 4.0 application status, vahan 4.0 beta status, vahan 4 application status or parivahan sewa application status. They all mean the same option on the same official page. Because Vahan is customised for each state, the report wording may differ from state to state.
How to use Know Your Application Status on Vahan
These labels come from Housing.com, a property and news site, and the live screens may word them differently; go by what you see.
- Open the official Vahan 4.0 citizen services page and choose your state if asked.
- Click Status in the top menu (the menu also shows Services, Appointment and Other Services).
- Select Know Your Application Status.
- On the next screen, give the application number shown on the receipt, then solve the captcha.
- Click Submit, then View Report.
If you have lost the application number, look through the receipt and any papers you saved. If it is not there, ask the RTO that holds your vehicle record how to trace the request. If you are tracking an RC specifically, our RC status guide explains what each stage means for the certificate itself.
How a Vahan online payment moves
When you click Confirm and Make Payment, Vahan hands you to a payment gateway, which talks to your bank. The bank sends the result back to the gateway, and the gateway tells Vahan. Only when Vahan hears back does it record the fee and let you print a receipt.
The Khagaria district transport office in Bihar explains that a delay at any of these three points can leave the transaction pending. The money may already be gone from your account while Vahan still waits for confirmation. That is why paying a second time straight away is risky: you may end up with two debits for one service.
The same applies to parivahan online payment for tax or fees through any Vahan service, including road tax and balance fees.
Money debited but no receipt: Check Pending Transaction
Khagaria's guidance for a debit with no receipt is:
- Wait 1 to 2 hours. The office notes that the waiting period varies by state.
- Go to the Vahan home page, then Status, then Check Pending Transaction.
- Enter the registration number and chassis number and click Show details.
- Select the transaction that is stuck.
- Click Check to Bank. Vahan asks the bank for the final result.
- If the bank confirms success, print the receipt. If it reports failure, apply for the service again.
If the payment failed at the start, with no debit at all, simply apply again.
Reading the result of a payment check
| What you see | What it usually means | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Receipt printed with a transaction number | Vahan has recorded the fee | Save the PDF and note the application number |
| Bank debit, Vahan shows pending | Confirmation has not come back yet | Wait, then use Check Pending Transaction |
| Check to Bank reports failure | The bank did not complete the payment | Apply again; follow up with your bank on any debit |
| No debit and an error screen | Payment failed before reaching the bank | Apply again |
| Still pending after the check | A back-end problem may be involved | Keep bank details and contact your RTO |
Refund timelines for failed debits depend on your bank and the gateway; we did not find an official Vahan figure to quote.
Receipts, forms and what to carry to the RTO
A Vahan receipt is your proof that the fee reached the transport department. Print or save it as soon as it appears. Some services also give you a form with the receipt. Odisha Transport, for example, says Duplicate RC produces Form-26, while hypothecation addition and termination produce Form-34 and Form-35. Both documents then go with you to the RTO, where staff verify them.
The Khagaria guidance says to book an appointment if your service needs one and then go to the RTO with your papers; only tax payment and RC particulars skip that step. Check Pending Transaction is meant for payments left pending: it lets you print the receipt once the bank confirms success. We did not find a confirmed reprint option for an older completed payment, so if you have lost one, ask your RTO.

Status checks for other jobs
The Vahan application status option tracks Vahan service requests only. Other jobs have their own checks:
- Fancy or choice numbers: in Bihar, auction results are published on the website and the highest bidder is told by SMS and email. Searches like parivahan open series status are usually about this. See fancy number.
- Insurance and PUC on record: a 2018 MoRTH advisory said insurance data is uploaded daily to Vahan. To view what your record shows, read vehicle details and PUC certificate.
- Driving licence applications: these run on Sarathi, not Vahan, which opens from the Driving License Related Services link on the Parivahan home page.
- Challans: check and pay only on the official eChallan portal.
When the status does not change
Back-end problems do happen. In May 2026 some vehicle owners in Pune reported that challans paid through the Vahan portal still showed pending because processing and receipt creation failed. The RTO advised them to keep their bank transaction records and payment reference numbers and said it was working with NIC, the National Informatics Centre that deployed Vahan.
If your vahan application status has not moved for a long time, take your application number, receipt and bank reference to the RTO that holds your vehicle record. Also make sure your mobile number in Vahan is current, because the OTPs for Vahan services go to that number. Be wary of agents who offer to speed up an application for a fee; the status check itself needs only your application number and a captcha on the official page.
Questions people ask
How do I check my Vahan application status?
On the Vahan citizen services page, open Status, choose Know Your Application Status, enter the application number and captcha, then Submit and View Report. Labels come from a third-party guide and may change.
Where do I find my Vahan application number?
It appears after you submit the service and is printed on the payment receipt. If you have lost it, ask the RTO that holds your vehicle record.
My Vahan online payment shows pending. Must I pay again?
Hold off. Give it 1 to 2 hours (states set different waits), run Check Pending Transaction and press Check to Bank. Only a failed result from the bank means you should apply and pay again.
How do I reprint a Vahan payment receipt?
If the payment was left pending, use Check Pending Transaction under the Status menu with your registration and chassis numbers, select the transaction and print the receipt once it shows as successful. We did not find a confirmed reprint route for older completed payments, so ask your RTO in that case.
Can I check my driving licence status on Vahan?
No. Licence applications run on Sarathi; pick Driving License Related Services on the Parivahan home page to get there. Vahan covers vehicle services only.
Does Parivahan Sewa India show application status?
No. We are an independent guide with no access to government records. Only the official Vahan pages and your RTO can show your application status.
